Admissions

If you would like to view the school, book a tour with the office at office@benthal.hackney.sch.uk or call 020 8985 9310

It is a legal requirement that all children receive full time education from the beginning of the school term following their fifth birthday. However, the policy in Hackney is that children who are about to reach their fifth birthday receive full time education. Children are able to start in September if their birthday falls between the beginning of September and the end of August.

Parents are welcome to visit the school by arrangement with the Assistant Headteacher or attend one of the school tours which can be booked via the school office. Application for admission to Hackney Schools should be made directly to the Learning Trust during the year before the child is due to start school. Further information on admission procedures can be found in the “Starting Schools in Hackney” booklet which can be obtained from the school or Hackney Learning Trust.

Children from reception class to Year 6 sometimes transfer to Benthal school from other schools mid year. In order for your child to be admitted to Benthal primary school mid year, you can contact Hackney Learning Trust for an admission form and put your child’s name on our waiting list.

SEND children

Benthal is an inclusive school and will not discriminate against any child with SEND. For more information on admission arrangements for children with SEND, please click on the link below

Nursery

We have a Nursery, which children at present attend for the morning session (9am-12pm), afternoon session (12.30pm-3.30pm) or full time (9am-3.30pm). Most children come into the Nursery class when they are three years old or shortly afterwards and stay in the Nursery for three terms. You can get a nursery application form from the school office.

There is no automatic transfer from the Nursery to Reception so you will have to apply through the Learning Trust for a Reception place. Please see primary admission leaflet below, or ask at the school office for further advice.

Currently, we have part-time and full time nursery places available for nursery children. Contact the school office if you require more information.

Please check the criteria for allocation of nursery places in the document below.
