Children are eligible to attend nursery the term after their third birthday. Children are admitted to the nursery three times a year: September (Autumn), January (Spring) and April (Summer). You will need to go to the school office to fill in an application form for a nursery place. Please see the table below for application deadlines.

Application Deadline  Start Date
End of June September
End of November January
End of February April

We currently  have morning places from 9.00am -12.00pm, afternoon places 12.30-3.30pm and full-time places 9.00m-3.30pm. We also offer extended services 8am-9am and 3.30-6pm (charged separately). Our nursery is open only during term-time (38 weeks a year) so will ideally suit parents with flexible working pattern or working term-time only.

We accept Tax Free Childcare payments and childcare vouchers can offer you flexibility around the days.

There is no automatic transfer from the Nursery to the Reception classes so you will have to apply to the Hackney Education for a Reception place. The deadline for reception class applications is 15th January 2021. Please ask at the school office for further advice.

Observations and Activities

In Early Years, we use Tapestry, an online journal, which staff use to record observations of pupils. It is used to capture children’s learning at any point of the day. It is also a tool that parents can use to share the children’s learning at home.

We also have our own Instagram page that we use to showcase some of the lovely activities the pupils do throughout the day. Check us out @benthalearlyyears

Forest Schools @ Benthal

Every Monday, the pupils take part in Forest School activities. This is led by Venti Costantini ,an accredited Forest School teacher. The pupils are taken out in groups of 8 to our school garden to explore and experience the natural world for themselves.
